Karlstad – South East Turkey

The partnership activities develop from a core focal point, which is the strategic use of land. From this topic expands the perspective and importance of urban design and planning, which always also needs to take risk management and risk analyses into consideration. The merging of these two subject areas will create a new conceptual framework for municipal strategic planning.

Actions on the agenda for 2009 are:

• Continued mutual work on urban design and planning;
• Continued mutual work on risk analyses and risk management, including knowledge building and tailored training events in Turkey;
• Implementation of issues on sustainable development, transparency and gender equality, where these horizontal perspectives will be interwoven with and included in the conceptual framework of urban planning and risk management;
• The merging of the two subject areas into a new conceptual framework with inclusion of also the horizontal perspectives. The partnership will create state of art handbooks and a proposal for a Turkish national policy guideline on the project theme;
• Establish structures to ensure long term networking within the partnership.
