Malmö – Mediterranean region
The partnership’s working group has decided to
concentrate on issues about renewable energy sources with special focus on
solar energy – both mutual research projects and practical installations of for
example PV panels. Also education and information activities to raise the level
of knowledge about solar power are implemented.
The three Turkish cities will arrange one solar workshop each during the
project period. The aim is to inform and engage decision makers and officials about
solar energy. In Malmö there have been a workshop about energy planning in
municipalities in 2009; how to increase the share of renewable energy sources
used in the four cities. The results of this workshop and also experiences from
Malmö when working with energy planning are used when creating a hand-book on
how to plan for more renewable energy in municipalities.
Plans are being made for students from the four cities to build a solar cell car together and participate as a tusenet team in the Formula G race for solar cell cars in Istanbul in 2010.
When it comes to concrete installations of solar applications the group is discussing the possibility to use Swedish Stirling technique to run water pumps and cool hotels in Turkey with solar power.
