SALAR - UMT
The SALAR – UMT activities are primarily oriented towards actions to strengthen UMT as an interest and support organisation for its members – all municipalities in Turkey. Actions on the agenda for 2009 are:
- An organisational development review of UMT’s current state-of-play and potential to fulfil important tasks in relation to its members. Recommendations and possible further actions.
- Development of a web-based study material for newly elected Turkish local politicians about “the path towards local politics”, based on Swedish experience of production of similar material.
- Finalising of a gender study of the situation in the administrations of the Turkish municipalities participating in the tusenet project, followed up by a special review of Turkish national gender policies, and handling and mainstreaming gender issues in tusenet. Recommendations to the project management, and a conference in Ankara to present review results and recommendations to all Turkish partnerships for the further project implementation.
- Support to UMT in issues of producing statistics and reports to members.
- Carrying through a number of thematic seminars for all Turkish tusenet municipalities on themes of high interest of all partners.
- On-the-job training at the SALAR Brussels Office for two UMT experts.
- Study visits to and contacts with National Municipal Associations in some of the new member states of EU.
- A general conference in Turkey for all project partners and other stakeholders of tusenet.
- Monitoring visits by the Swedish and Turkish tusenet project coordinators to some of the Turkish tusenet municipalities.
