Stockholm – Marmara Region

There are two main topics in the project plan for the cooperation of the last project period.

1. Preparing and implementing a Master Plan and Strategic Waste Management Plans (SWMP) for each of the participating Turkish municipalities, including Adalar.

During the last period of 2009 the Turkish partners, consisting of representatives of Istanbul Metropolitan (IMM) and municipalities of Zeytinburnu, Büyükcekmece and Adalar has produced a draft (SWMP) for each municipality. IMM is thinking of revisal of an existing SWMP. The experts of Stockholm and Nacka are used as experts and have also produced guide lines for the production of SWMPs.

Now we are focused on how to find the best way to dissemination of our results. We are planning for a combined work meeting and a conference during February 2010. A preliminary theme of the conference might be “Studies that should be done in waste management in the period of EU Participation”.

2. Training in a broad sense for Increasing the Capacity of Local Governments on Recycling Management

The City of Stockholm and the City of Nacka can now look back on the last study tour for the Turkish partners to Sweden in June this year. The tour highlighted professional and effective communication within administration and with citizens.

The Turkish team has produced an interesting website for awareness. The link to the site is: http://www.ibb.gov.tr/sites/atikyonetimi/Documents/resim/mudurluk/tus.html

There is an agreement among the Turkish team to maintenance of this investment. Further steps will therefore be taken to develop the site during the project period.
